After comming to America in 1856 with his wife Martha Pyburn English, whom he married 1837 in England, and 5 children, Joseph 1839, Martha 1842, Elizabeth 1846, John 1848 and Margaret Jane 1853, John worked as a sawmill operator and also farmed his land. Two more children were born in Shalersville, Eliza 1858 and Hattie 1861 . John died from tuberculosis, the same disease his wife had. He shares the same headstone with his wife Martha.
