(Mountain District Land Office, Nashville, Tennessee, Book B, pg. 312 number 127)

Louisa Baker the fifth child was born 05 June 1826 in Warren County, Tennesse. On 27 February 1827 Larkin Baker had 50 acres surveyed in Warren County based on a land entry-Grant #1530 dated 23 January 1826. This land was located on the north side of Rocky River and was crossed by the road between McMinnville and Spara by Dillings Ferry, Jasper C Baker was born 25 February 1828 in Tennessee, probably Warren County. On 11 March 1828 Larkin had 50 acres surveyed in Warren County by virtue of a land entry-grant #1816 dated 18 April 1826. This land was located on the north side of Rocky River adjoining property owned by James Hembree. This survey was witnessed by James Hembree and John Baker. On 12 March 1828 Larkin Baker sold this land to Samuel Fleming. The price of this land is not given. (Warren County, Tennessee, Plat Book 2, pg. 69)

Ca. 1828 the Larkin Baker family moved to Schuyler County, located in west central Illinois. On 03 November 1828 Larkin Baker was listed as a voter in the presidental election in Rushville, Schuyler County. In the 1830 census Larkin Baker was named as he head of a household in Schuyler County, consisting of 2 males less than 5, 1 male between 5 and 10, and 1 male between 20 and 30, 1 male between 30 and 40, 1 female less than 5, 1 female between 5 and 10, 1 female between 10 and 15, and 1 female between 30 and 40. On 25 May 1831 Richard Mitchell of Hawkins County, Tennessee sold Larkin Baker of Schuyler County 160 acres located in Schuyler County for $55. This land was the northwest quarter of section 28 of township 2 norh range 1 east in the tract of land appropriated by Concress for militray bounties. (Schuyler County Deeds, Vol. B., pg. 148) On 14 November 1831 Larkin Baker, Younger J. Smith and Felding Delaney were appointed Appraisers of the estate of Reuben Fenner in Schuyler County. (Wills, Letters of Adminstration and Guardian Bonds 1826-1836 Schuyler County, Illinois, pg. 35.) "A brief History of Browning Township in Combined History of Schuyler and Brown Counties Illinois, Indicates that about 1831 " George Garrison, a native of Ohio, came and settled on the south half of section 29 (?) where he bout the pre-exempted right from Larkin Baker, who had been there long enough to fence in about twelve acres of land to build a log cabin and a stable. (pg. 309) (need to check this information with Schuyler County Documents).

In 1832 Larkin Baker was accessed taxes on 160 acres in Schuyler County. William Jordan (pronounced Jerden) Baker, the eighth child was born 10 June 1832. According to his Union Military record he was born in Bedord County, Tennessee; however, Larkin Baker is not known to have owned land in Bedford County and also Larkin Baker is recorded as being in Schuyler County, Illinois in 1831 and 1833. If he had lived in Bedford County about this time this might explain later the accociations with the Gibson and Medlin families who lived in Bedord County, and were later associated with the Larkin Baker family in Platte County, Missouri and in Petters Colony in north central Texas.

On 10 June 1833 Larkin Baker was one of 48 white male inhabitants over 21 years of age who authorized the Alexander Curry School Commissioners in Schuyler County to sell a section of land for the benefit of the school. On 17 April 1844 Larkin and Rosannah Baker sold Michael Skaggs the northeast quarter of section 27 township 53 range 34 for $700. (Platte County [MO.] Deeds, vol. B, pg. 436). This particular piece of land was located near the Platte River, a tributary of the Missouri River. This land was near farms owned by Isaac Eads, Francis Troop, Ambrose Foster, Jesse Eads, William Gibson, James P. Hallford and John Hallford. These men and their families would join Larkin Baker in a move to the Peters Colony in North Texas either in 1844 or shortly afterward.

"Larkin Baker, sons John W., James M. and Jasper, 6 children (probably not including Louisa who had recently married William H. Gibson) and wife Rosannah joined a wagon train led by Larkin's son-in-law Hall Medlin which left Platte County in the spring of 1844 for Peters Colony, located in north Texas. The group included Hall Medlin, his mother Rachal, his brother Owen, three sisters and their husbands James Gibson (married to Nancy Medlin), James P. Hallford (married to Sarah Medlin) and John H. Hallford (married to Malissa Medlin), Jess Gibson and William Gibson (senior). . . . This group reached Peters Colony on White Rock Creek in Old Nacagdoches County, currently Dallas county, before 01 July, 1844. Ralph H. Barksdale, an agent for Peters Colony, reported on 03 December 1844 that Larkin Baker was living on the east side of White Rock Creek in a cabin with 6 children, 1 slave, 5 rifles and 1 shotgun.

Larkin Baker most likely died shortly after arriving in Peters Colony, probably in 1845. Seymour V. Connor in The Peters Colony of Texas, a History and Biographical Sketches of the Early Settlers stated that Larkin Baker, "Moved away from the colony, as no land was patented in his name." He also asserted that Rosannah Baker came to the colony as a widow with 4 children and died before 1850. This is in conflict with the Barksdale report of December 1844 which places the Larkin Baker family in Dallas County on White Rock Creek. Rosannah Baker is recorded in the tax records of Dallas County, Texas in 1846 with 640 acres being section 29 of township 3 north range 2 west and was assessed taxes of $1.28."
