Frederick Scheafer was born in Waldeck. He is believed to have arrived in New York in 1844 and then traveled on to Missouri. He married Eleanore Schultz and they had three children. Eleanore died in November 1865 leaving him alone to care for the children. Frederick died the following fall leaving no family to care for his remains. He was taken for burial by friends, co-workers, neighbors or church members. The place is unknown. The children were placed in foster homes.
