She was the widow of Charles G. Finch who died April 13, 1948. They were married November 30, 1887, and observed their 60th wedding anniversary in 1947. They spent most of their married life in Hawthorne Township and moved to Crossville 16 years ago.
Mrs. Finch, who was born March 13, 1865, in Butler County, Ohio, was the daughter of Charles and Mary Magdeline Zimmerman Ziegler, German and Prussian immigrants to the United States in the early 1800’s.
The Ziegler family and four neighboring families came down the Ohio River in a flatboat when Mrs. Finch was five years old. The Zieglers landed in New Harmony and spend the winter there. In the spring they moved to the old Martin McHenry farm near Carmi where her father built a one-room log cabin for his family. The Zieglers later lived on several farms in the county.
Mrs. Finch was a member of the Crossville Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Martin Finch, Concord, California, and Fred Finch, Carmi; one daughter, Mrs. Lena Higginson, Crossville; 10 grandchildren, 27 great – grandchildren, and five great-great- grandchildren.
Proceeding her in death were a daughter, Mrs. Versa Albright, who succumbed January 16, 1953; a son, George W. Finch, May 8, 1922; a sister, Mrs. Lena Hammell, and a brother, Louis Ziegler.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. from the Crossville Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul D. Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Stokes Chapel Cemetery with the Kittinger Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.
The body will be taken to the church at 2p.m. Friday to remain for one hour prior to the service.
