Mr. Sidney Carlton Turner, son of the late Edward Turner and the late Station Ellen Turner went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 18, 2007. Born on April 8, 1921 in Southampton County, Sidney was the fourth child of eleven children and he was affectionately known as "Son".
The family moved from Southampton County to Northampton County, VA where he attended public school, and joined the African Baptist Church in Cheriton, VA. On August 20, 1942, Sidney was joined in Holy Matrimony to Altena Elnora Satchell and to this union three children were born. Sidney faithfully completed 35 years of pubic service with the Department of Highways and Transportation. After retirement, Sidney established one of the first lawn care services in his community. He was proud of his work and his clients relied on his skillful services; Sidney was very dependable. He was also an avid hunter who really loved his dogs. Sidney also loved fishing. Sidney was a lifelong member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church and served on the Board of Trustees.
He was also a member of the Senior Ushers (Male Greeters).
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter Ms. Helena Powell (Earl); two sons-Mr. Jeffery E. Turner (Yvonne); and Edward D. Turner (Lorraine); five sisters-Earnie Turner ; Hattie Turner; Lucille Wilson; Ellen Freeman; Edith Turner; two brothers-William Turner of and Lynwood Turner; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
