NOTE: Concerning Henry Viet. Henry and his wife Minnie married in 1886. Some have a Henry A. Viet of  Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA as the father of William Jay. But this Henry was married to Maria Katharine Löll on December 24, 1881 in Hessen, Deutschland. He was born in 1856 in Germany, and was naturalized in 1896. He later married a woman with the first name Louisa. These are not the same person. Henry the father of William was born in 1847 in France. Henry's parents may likely be Inconnu Viot and Marguerite Marie Viot. Marguerite also was known as Marie, either a middle name or a nickname. Marie's maiden name is unknown at this time. They were of Diou, France. Henry also had a sibling named Laurian Viot born 26 February 26, 1841 in Diou, France. I'm not positive, but it is all I can find so far. Viot in France, and Viet in Germany.

Willam was the only child born to Henry and Minnie, and by 1900 the local directory has Minnie listed as a widow. I doubt she would have been listed as a widow if her husband had left her for another woman. It's possible, but not likely. People in the community would have talked about this. In 1900 Minnie and William are found living as boarders with Louisa Oldenburg. By the 1920 Federal Census William is found owning a farm and married to Edith.

NOTE: My mother Meriel, mentioned in References above, was close to William and Edith's daughter Virginia, and they spoke with each other over the phone many times throughout their lives, and for long periods of time. My mother loved Virginia very much, and loved Edith's son Billy equally. She gained a great insight into the family by keeping in touch with Virginia. I miss them all greatly.
