Josephine Marie Balbac was born in 1877, daughter of Conradus "Conrad" Balbac and Elizabeth Menzemer-Balbac. Grand-daughter of Joannis Georgii Balbach & Catharina Trebel-Balbach, and Jacob Georg Menzemer & Catharina Kleinle-Menzemer.

In 1899, Josephine married George Henry Klein, and they raised two children: Roswald "Ross" William Kline, and Loretta Emilie Kline-Lehnhardt.
