Violet's name is sometimes shown as Wilbur-Ward. Violet was the daughter of Emery Mann Wilbur and Rosetta Kinney. Rosetta became very sick. Shortly before she died, she and Emery arranged with their friends, Fred and Jennie (Weldon) Ward, to adopt 5 year old Violet. They agreed and Violet moved to their farm, 2 miles west of BurrOrr Oak, to live with her new adoptive parents. Violet and Louie Underbakke would marry on 20 June 1918 in the home she had grown up in. After their marriage they lived in this house for the rest of their married years. In 1968, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with family and friends. After Louie passed away, Violet remained in their home for a few years before she moved to an apartment in Decorah, Iowa.
