Oberleutnant zur See, and commander of the German submarine U-1209. He died when the U-boat was scuttled on 18 December 1944 near the Isles of Scilly after running aground on Wolf Rock.

He is also commemorated on the Moltenort U-Boat Memorial, Heikendorf, Germany.
