Robert Kent Atkins died peacefully at Transitions LifeCare (formerly Hospice of Wake County) on June 13, 2015 after a short battle with lung cancer.

Robert was a long time resident of southern Wake County, growing up on his family farm on Penny Road, and graduated from Cary High School in 1975.

Building his home on the farm that he grew up on, he and his loving wife of 33 years, Robin, had two sons, Clint and Matthew.

A man of great faith, he spent his free time reading the Bible to his two boys while they were young, instilling in them the foundations of a strong Christian upbringing.

In 1997, he started his own lawn care business, deepening his ties to the Wake County community. He was well known for being, "the hardest working man in Wake County." A dependable and reliable business man, his clients always knew they could rely on him to do the job right every time.

Known for his "green thumb" he was often asked for his opinion on anything that grew out of the ground. He loved being outside and watching his plants grow. He also loved spending time with his beloved cat, Lucky, who held a very special place in his heart.

The family would like to especially thank those who have stepped in to assist Robin in continuing the business in Robert's absence, including: Monica and Paul Puryear, Bobby Mills, Arthur Hicks, Ray Weatherspoon and Bill "Papa Bill" Barbour.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert B. Atkins and Christine C. Atkins, and sisters, Carolyn Atkins-Beddingfield (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=74163826) and Alice Ann Atkins.

Robert is survived by his wife, Robin (Daniels) Atkins; sons, Clint Atkins and wife, Natalie of Columbus, OH and Matthew Atkins and wife, Marcie of Chicago, IL; siblings, Frances (Atkins) and husband, Dr. Jack Britt, Judy (Atkins) Durden, Herbert Gary Atkins, and Jean Atkins; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are welcome to visitation at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Maynard Road in Cary, from 6-8PM on Wednesday June 17th. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, June 18th at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 9300 Penny Road in Raleigh.
