MERCED - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Stratford Evans Chapel for John Ray Bowman, 57, of 1935 Stretch Road who died Friday. Burial will be in the Merced District Cemetery. Bowman was a native of Gainesville, Tex., and lived here 33 years. He was a bartender at Dutch's Tavern. He leaves his widow, Eunice; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Batten of Merced; a son, Robert Bowman of Fresno; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Bowman of Merced; five brothers, Theodore, Louis, William and Thomas Bowman, all of Merced, and George Bowman of Fresno; two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Mae Finn of Merced and Mrs. Frances Brooks of San Jose; and four grandchildren.
