A native of Québec, Father Jean-Marie Blanchard entered the Missionaries of Africa at St-Martin and after being ordained priest in Eastview on February 2, 1950, was sent to Tanzania on June 6 of that year. He remained there until 1969, serving various offices across Kigoma, Kajunguti, Bunena, Rulenge, Bukoba and Mwanza. Back in Canada in 1970, he was elected assistant provincial secretary on March 1, 1990. Passing away at the Pavillon St-Vincent of Sherbrooke, following his requiem mass, held on May 9, 2015 at the Chapel of the Missionaries of Africa in Sherbrooke, his body was cremated and his ashes interred at a later date in his family's plot at Saint-Germain-de-Grantham.
