Obit was in Springfield News-Sun February 2, 2012RUNYAN, Charles Howard 81, of South Vienna, passed away Wednesday February 1, 2012 in Oakwood Village. He was born March 15, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Marion R. and Gladys W. (Wells) Runyan. He was a graduate of Plattsburg High School class of 1948, after graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1950. He went to work with his father at the Runyan Plumbing and Tinning Shop and International Harvester - Navistar where he was employed for thirty-three years. He also was also employed by the Village of South Vienna as the maintenance man and meter reader for thirty-four plus years. Howard was an original member of the South Vienna Corn Festival Committee. He installed all the electricity and did various other jobs throughout his involvement with the Corn Festival. He and his brother Roger were awarded the Grand Marshalls of the 1997 Corn Festival. He was a lifelong member of the United Church of South Vienna. Howard was a member of the IOOF Lodge #345 for fifty-eight years where he was involved in many offices, duties and was awarded the Grand Master's Award in 1986. He was also awarded the Northeastern High School Golden Wing Award for his involvement in athletics. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, Northeastern Jets and Ohio State Buckeyes. Howard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory his sweetheart of fifty-five years, Charlotte A. (McWilliams) Runyan; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tom Korab of Springfield; two granddaughters, who were the love of his life, Alex and Kristin Korab; two brothers, Roger Runyan of South Vienna and Norman (Martha R.) Runyan of Lebanon; sister, Joyce Delabar of Eustis, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Suzanne Runyan and brother-in-law, Richard Delabar. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where IOOF and Rebekah Lodge service will be held at 4 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Monday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the United Church of South Vienna, 227 E. Main Street. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Scott Griswold officiating. The family would like to thank Harmony Township EMS especially Jim Wren also Dr. Michael McKee, Drs. Tajuddin and Ash Ahmed, Oakwood Village Staff, Community Mercy Hospice and Springfield Regional Medical Center staff for their care. They wish to also thank the IOOF Lodge brothers and sisters and special neighbors, especially his buddy Scott Schmid, for their help and support. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the South Vienna IOOF Lodge #345, PO Box 345, South Vienna, Ohio 45369 or the United Church of South Vienna Building Fund, 227 E.
