Son of Samuel and Sarah (Smith) Church, married Aug 6, 1761 in Massachusetts to Rhoda Bush.
Samuel a settler of Poultney, Rutland County, Vermont by 1777 and served in the Poultney Militia under the command of Capt. Zebediah Dewey, fighting at the taking of Crown Point and 2nd battle of Ticonderoga, Hubbardton, Bennington in 1777 and later in the various Alarms at Castleton and others. It is believed his wife Rhoda Bush Church and children Orphia, Amaziah, Ephraim, Sarah, Lucina, Olive, Daniel and Mary "Polly" may have all fled ahead of the advancement of Col. Bourgoynes' massive army following the Battle of Hubbardton, led by the wife of Zebediah Dewey, Beulah Stearns Dewey. Being displaced from their homes for several weeks if not longer, qualifies the mother and possibly the older children as Patriots of the Revolution and eligible for membership in Daughters of the American Revolution or Sons of the American Revolution.
