Einar Jensen was born December
25, 1894, at Tjarborg, (pronounced
Chair-e-borg) Denmark, the son of
Kris ten Jensen and Ane Katherine
Christensen. He was one of four
children, two of whom are deceased.

In April 1912, Einar and a
childhood friend came to America.
They worked as hired men first in
Nebraska but later came to Newell.
Einar worked as a hired man on
farms in the Newell community and
also spent many hard days digging
tile ditches.

On July 24, 1918, he was
inducted into the U. S. Army. On
that day 250 men from Buena Vista
County and 250 men from Cherokee
County left on a troop train from
Storm Lake for Camp Gordon,
Georgia. After about two weeks of
training without rifles or ammunition,
most of them were sent to
France as front line replacements.

On November 3rd Einar was
severely wounded and spent many
months in hospitals in France and
the United States. After his
discharge he went back to farming
which was his life.

He was united in marriage
October 5, 1929, to Elsie Magelssen
at Rushford, Minnesota and to this
union one son, Eric Magelssen
Jensen was born. Einar passed
away at his home in Newell October
21, 1975.

Survivors include his brother
Jens and wife, and three nephews
and- a niece with their families in
Denmark; his wife, Elsie, his son
Eric with his wife, Elise; and his
beloved granddaughter, Eileen.
