Magelssen. She graduated from
Rushford High School in 1906 and
from the University of Southern
Minnesota at Winona in 1908 and
then began teaching — two years at
Blue Earth, Minn, and four years at
Lanesboro, Minn. From Lanesboro
she went to Chicago and taught first
grade for two years and retarded
children for two years. Besides
teaching, she studied at the University
Extension and Lewis Institute
on weekdays and taught English and
spelling at an adult night school.
After four years in Chicago, she
spent two years as a reconstruction
aide a t four different army hospitals
— Camp Sherman, Ohio; Fort
Porter, N.Y.; Old Point Comfort
U.S. Hospital no. 43 in W. Va. and
Carlisle, Pa. She also spent one year
as a critic teacher at the Canton,
S.D. Normal and then went back to
teaching at Rushford. On Oct. 5, 1929
she married Einar Jensen and
became a farm wife. After 26 years,
they retired and moved to Newell.
He took up wood carving as a new
hobby and later passed away on Oct.
21, 1975.
Survivors include one son Eric
Magelssen Jensen and his wife
Elise; two granddaughters Eileen
and Christina and a niece, nephew
and their families.
