Hans Jacob Holtzclaw bought Ashland Farm in 1724 by 1725 he had built the home. A small stone house along with a separate stone kitchen after receiving a grant for what he named Ashland Farm. This was the first of his properties.

Between 1861-1864 Ashland Farms, Warrenton, Fauquier Co., VA
Ashland Farms was used as a medical facility by the Union Army during the Civil War.

In 1862 there is the story of the Mystery of Union Payroll
Tradition has it that a paymaster in the Union Army buried the army payroll somewhere at Ashland Farms before he was killed at nearby Waterloo. The money was never found.

Currently, the property is owned by a private party where the graves are located.
