Obituary for Leanard Earl Banks


Leonard Earl Banks, 73, Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the Baptist Health Care Center, Bismarck. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM, Monday, June 15, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bismarck, with Brother John Tyler officiating. Visitation is scheduled for two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Leonard was born December 10, 1941, at Milford, Utah to Joseph and Alberta (Johnson) Banks. He was raised and educated in Mapleton, Utah, where he graduated from high school. He received a Commercial Art Degree from Bismarck State College. On April 3, 1976, he married Bonnie Austin in Bismarck. Leonard was a Boy Scout leader for years. He enjoyed camping, gardening, reading, and church activities. He especially loved being a devoted family man, husband, father, and grandfather, and had a gift for loving people and accepting them.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Anna (William) Bianco III, all of Bismarck; five sons, Rayman (Paulena), Seattle, Washington, Samuel (Laurie Kae), Utah, J. Peter (Brenda), Lawton, Oklahoma, Andrew, Fargo, Sean (Leona), Minot; four sisters, Penny Loback, Grace (Gene) Nielsen, Beverly Beardall, and P.R. (Holly) Miller-Banks; one brother Kim (Susan) Banks; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Nell, all of Utah; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Charlie Swenson and Jay Price.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Westley Banks; two sisters, Linda Banks and Rosella (Paul) Arrington; and two brothers, Joseph and Steven (Barbara).
