Obituary:

Mark Manlove, the eldest son of John and Jane Manlove, was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, Dec. 11, 1811. In the fall of 1813, when he was but two years old, his parents move to what was then called, "The Northwest Territory," and purchased a piece of land which was part of a tract of land call the Harrison Purchase," near the present town of Connersville, in Fayette county, Indiana.

In the spring of 1826, they came to Henry county and entered a piece of land near Grant City, where he lived with his parents until his marriage to Hannah James, April 17, 1833, with whom he lived happily until her death, Aug. 14, 1844. Jan. 28, 1847, he married Lydia Wilson, who still survives him. Five children were born to them, namely: [Alfred] Wesley, Addie, Elias, Jesse and Jennie. Two of these, Elias and Addie, have departed this life, and the others are here today.

Shortly after his second marriage, he purchased the farm upon which he had lived until his death, Feb. 18, 1898, age 86 years, 2 months, 7 days. "Uncle Mark," as he was familiarly called by almost everyone who knew him, was, in his younger days, a carpenter by trade, and there are still standing several buildings which were framed by his hands; but in later years he was a farmer. He was very industrious and economical, and was also a man liberal in his views, politically and religiously. While he might differ with some of us in his religious views, he was a firm belief in a future state of existence. He leaves a host of neighbors and friends. His remains were laid to rest in Greensboro cemetery.
