Daughter of George Washington Wilson and Faire Belle Eltringham. Identified on the 1910 US Census in Sandy, Tuscarawas, OH living with adoptive parents, Thomas W and Charita Tate. Also living with them was an adopted son, Ural Eckels. Hester married George R Evans (1892-1921). She is identified on the 1940 US Census in Navarre, Stark, OH living with two children; Quentin Evans (20) and Eileen Evans (19). She later married Edward Mathie.

Mrs. Hester Evans Mathie, 89, formerly of 67 W. Canal Street, Navarre, died this morning in Navarre Community Health Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Mathie was born in Otsego and lived in the Navarre area most of her life. She was the owner of the former Evans Greenhouse. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Karl (Eileen) Philabaum; a son, Quentin Evans; a stepdaughter; two stepsons; a sister; two brothers; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 pm at the Atkinson-Feught-Shaidnagle Funeral Home. Interment will be made in Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday for two hours before the service.
