Our beloved mother, Neva Jean Haskell Peterson, passed away June 7, 2015 in American Fork, UT, reunited with her eternal sweetheart. The impact of her life is marked by innumerable acts of love and service. She had exceptional compassion and always offered a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and unconditional love to everyone she came in contact with.

Neva was born September 7, 1937 in Payson, UT to Ernest LeRoy and Beulah Pierce Haskell. She lived in Haskellville (Payson) and attended and graduated from Payson schools. She learned to work hard on her family farm and loved being close to all the family who lived nearby. Neva was chosen to represent her hometown as Miss Payson in 1955.
Neva married Harold (Hal) Halford on September 10, 1956 and they were later divorced.

Neva met the love of her life and married Alden James (Jim) Peterson on January 6, 1969 in Elko, NV. One of the happiest days of her life was when they were sealed in the Provo LDS Temple on June 14, 1985.

They made their home in Santaquin where she would spend the rest of her life. From her earliest memories all Neva wanted was to be a mother. Together she and Jim raised 5 children. She cherished any opportunity to be with her family. She was blessed with amazing neighbors and friends who enriched her life as she did theirs. Neva had an incredible bond with children. She loved them and understood their precious innocence. Both felt great joy in those relationships.

She loved spending time in her yard and particularly enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. Neva had a beautiful voice, loved music and it had a profound impact on her life.

Neva had an incredible testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved reading the scriptures, spending time in the Temple and served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for many years. She fulfilled every calling with all her might, even when it was very hard for her. She recognized the promptings of the spirit and blessed many lives by listening and acting on those promptings.

She loved her country and served in the American Legion Post 84 Auxiliary. Together Neva and Jim led Santaquin City’s efforts to build the Santaquin City Veteran’s Monument.

She is survived by her loving children Jean Halford (Mark) Wadsworth, Kris Halford Hanson, Melanie Halford (Glen) Walker, Carole Peterson (Robert) Parkin and Mark (Christine) Peterson, 14 grandchildren (Justin, Luke, Sophia, Terra, Wesley, Daniel, Matthew, Paige, Evan, Jessica, Rebekah, Ashley, Jacee & John) along with 9 great grandchildren who adored her. Surviving siblings are Eldon (Leona) Haskell, Lois (Lowell) Hadlock and sister-in-law Frances Gull.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents, Irean and Alden L. Peterson, and Beulah and LeRoy Haskell; sister, Joyce (Robert) Snow; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Baird and Deanna Hanson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11th at 11:00 am at the Santaquin 9th Ward, 545 N 200 E.
