Genevieve Dwyer, 95, of Second and Centre streets, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Shenandoah.
She was born in Buck Run, April 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Harvey and Kathryn (Rutledge) McSurdy.
She was a graduate of Cass Township High School Class of 1938.
She worked for Bendicks Corp. in Philadelphia as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Ashland.
She was an avid bowler at the Ashland Elks having many 600 series games.
Surviving are two sons, Martin Dwyer and his wife, Anita, of Barnesville, and James Dwyer and his wife, Helene, of Ashland; a grandson, James D. Dwyer Jr. and his companion, Sherri Andrews, of Ashland; a great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Dwyer, in 2000; two sisters, Mary Roperto and Catherine Sausser; and four brothers, Joseph, Norbert, Michael and James McSurdy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Ashland, at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. John W. Bambrick as celebrant. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ashland. The Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, www.kullfuneral.com, had charge of arrangements.
