Amarylyce Lois Schmidt Mart, Age 83, of Bloomington,passed away at her Meadowood residence in Bloomington on March 17, 2011.

She was born in Gary, Indiana the daughter of William A. and Eleanor Schmidt. She graduated from Gary Tolleston High School in 1945. She met her future husband Palmer E. Mart on the I.U. Campus when the WWII veterans returned. They were married on August 28, 1948 in Gary, Indiana.

Amarylyce called "Mare" majored in Speech and English and received her B.S. Degree from Indiana University in 1949. She was an avid swimmer, played bridge, loved to dance and "Jitterbug", and travel. She was always engaged in genealogy. She enjoyed theater and Indiana University Athletics and was pleased when an I.U. Athletic Scholarship was made in the Athletic Endowment Fund by her and her husband. Mare spent winters on Longboat Key, Florida and summers at her cottage near Traverse City, Michigan. She and Palmer moved to the Meadowood Retirement Community in Bloomington, Indiana in 2000 from Elkhart, Indiana. Amarylyce taught school in Indiana at Hobart, Merrillville, and Elkhart. She was a member of Olive Chapter #396 of the Eastern Star, the Arbutus Society, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Susan Kaye (Mart) Johnson and two brothers William C. Schmidt (Delores) of Merrillville, Indiana and Alvin L. Schmidt (Bonnie) of Hobart, Indiana.

Amarylyce is survived by her husband of sixty-three years Palmer Mart; two daughters Alyce Lynn Webb (Tony) of Crown Point, Indiana and Patricia Jayne Evans (Douglas) of New Bern, North Carolina; one brother Ross O. Schmidt (Sandra) of Costa Mesa, California; three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

There will be no visitation or services in Bloomington. A private family service will be held at a later date in Elkhart, Indiana Allen Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Bloomington. Following cremation, the Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home in Elkhart will provide services in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum located in Rice Cemetery. The Rev. Steven Braden will officiate at the service. Friends may make memorial contributions to the Bloomington Hospital Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington.
