Mr. William Jefferson (Jeff) Bowman, age 90 of Lufkin, Texas passed away to his heavenly home on May 30, 2015. Mr. Bowman was born April 18, 1925 in Chita (Trinity County), Texas, to Johnston W. and Mary Winona Thornton Bowman.

His early education was in a country school house in Chita. Mr. Bowman did not graduate with his classmates because he was drafted by the US Army to serve in WWII. After his return from fighting in Europe he received his Certificate of Graduation from Groveton High School, Groveton, Texas. Mr. Bowman served in the US Army from 25 August 1943 until 25 January 1946. Mr. Bowman served in Co. C of the 141st Infantry Division. He served as Staff Sergeant of the 36th Division during the European Theater and was a survivor of the 36th lost battalion. He was awarded the bronze Star.

Mr. Bowman was a member of the Ratcliff Baptist Church, Ratcliff, Texas. Mr. Bowman began his career working for Brookshire Brothers in Trinity, Texas. Later was moved to the Mineola, Texas store. In 1953 the company moved him to Crockett, Texas to manage the Brookshire Brothers store. On May 27, 1971 he was promoted to Grocery Supervisor of the company until April 15, 1979. He served as Produce Director from April 1979 until his retirement from Brookshire Brothers in June 1990, after a span of 40 years.

Survivors include his wife Ann Petty of Lufkin, sons James R. Bowman of Pennington, Jeff Jr. and wife Kathy of Dumas, grandsons Trey and wife Angel of Amarillo, Adam and wife Holli of Shreveport, Louisiana, James Jr. of Rosharon and Jeremy and wife Morrell of Grapeland, great-grandchildren Clay, Cheyenne, John of Grapeland, Taylen, Wyatt of Amarillo, Kayden of Shreveport. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by parents Johnston W. and Mary Winona Thornton Bowman, sisters Lilla Lee and brother-in-law Horace, Ruth Stephens and brother-in-law Murrell, Audrey Bellamy and brother-in-law Verall, Bobbie Dunlap and brother-in-law Timothy, brothers Hayne and sister-in-law Gertrude, Reagan and sister-in-law Mary Belle, Vernon and sister-in-law Ozettie, and oldest sister Gladys Bowman.

Private graveside services were held June 2, 2015 in Crockett, Texas, at Evergreen Cemetery.

Service under the direction of Waller-Thornton Funeral Home, Trinity, Texas. Officiate Dr. Robert Lacey.
