Susan M. Basten, age 74, a Manitowoc resident, entered eternal life on Wednesday afternoon, June 3, 2015 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc where she has resided the past 4 weeks.

Susan was born July 27, 1940 in Iron Mountain, MI. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Campbell Stern. Sue was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy in Green Bay with the class of 1958. She then continued her education at St. Norbert's College in Green Bay and Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland, WI. She owned and operated Sue's Ceramics in Manitowoc and was also employed as an LPN at St. Mary's Home from where she retired after 20 years. Sue was a Girl Scout leader and sold Scrip at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church office. She loved caring for others and her family and enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's activities. Sue loved to read, do needle work and puzzles. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

She is survived by two daughters: Mary S. (Daryl) George, Clintonville; Kathleen M. ( Kevin) Sturm, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren: Allison, Christopher, Nicholas, Ehrick, and Katelynn George; Joshua (Devin) Laurin, Emily Laurin and special friend Michael Tyeptanar; Hannah and Aaron Sturm; two great grandchildren: Evrette and Nataleigh; one brother: John M. (Laurale) Stern, Manitowoc; sister-in-law: Mickey (Dave) Stegemann, Portland, OR; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Michael and Margaret Stern; one son: Thomas J. Basten Jr.; and the father of her children: Thomas J. Basten Sr.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo-1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Brunner. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 5:30 p.m. led by Deacon Al Boeldt. The visitation will continue on Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Following the funeral services there will be a luncheon held for family and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers that family requests memorial for a memorial fund that is being established in Sue's name. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the health care providers and care givers for their compassionate care during Sue's final months.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
