GRIMES - A funeral for Francis Lee Shafer, 57, of Grimes was held May 19, 1986 at the Assumption Church at Granger. Mr. Shafer died of heart attack May 9 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center at Des Moines.

Burial was in the Beaver Cemetery near Granger.

A lifelong resident of Grimes, he was a farmer. He was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church at Urbandale, the Farm Bureau and Mended Hearts.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; five sons, Mike of Johnson, Pat of New Jersey and Dennis, Dan and Tim, all of Grimes; a daughter, Colleen Chafer of Altoona; his mother, Cora Shafer of West Des Moines; two sisters, Margaret Taylor of Grimes and Nellie Bartelt of Dallas Center; a brother, Jack of Grimes; and nine grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church building fund or to Assumption Church at Granger.
