Sylvia Marie Arndt Hicks, 84, died at 11:10 AM Monday, March 3, 2003, at St. Anthony's Health Care Center, where she had been a patient since 1999. Born Nov. 3, 1918, at Stockwell, she attended Jefferson High School and had lived in Lafayette most of her life.

Mrs. Hicks retired from Purdue University in 1983 where she was a veterinarian laboratory assistant for 15 years. She had previously worked at Brown Rubber. She was a 42-year member of Hope Chapel Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Circle II. She was also a member of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 347. She enjoyed traveling and NASCAR.

Surviving are two sons, Lester Carl (wife Rita) Hicks and Henry Ray (wife Patty) Hicks, both of Lafayette; a sister, Alice (Mrs. Everett) Christopher of Monticello; a brother, Raymond (wife Henrietta) Arndt of Lafayette; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers.
