Rocky was originally gotten for Joe, Anna, (our sister) and I. He became a "Joe dog" though and it didn't take long. He was so attached to Joe and it's like he knew Joe needed the extra attention and would really enjoy it. My parents have a ramp at the front of their house for Joe, and he would go out in his wheelchair, while Rocky was tied up out back, (he was an outdoor dog), and Rocky would jump and whine as soon as he heard the shuffle of Joe's feet pushing himself out the door. Joe would make his way around back, and go to Rocky and he would give so many kisses from right on Joe's lap, Joe would have to back his chair up to catch his breath. Joe was independant to be home alone for periods of time, and I remember when Rocky was a puppy we had gone out for a bit, and put him downstairs with food, water, and a blanket. While we were gone, he had gotten up the stairs the little thing he was and whined at the door. Joe opened the basement door and let him up feeling sorry for him whining. When we got home, the little shelf at floor level with the onions was empty. Rocky had taken them all and batted them all over the floor, that and the tomatoes. Dad was not happy but who could not smile at that mischievous puppy. He was so adorable. When you let him off the leash out back he would tear off running down the backyard which is huge. Then run back, and up on the wooden little step block for standing on to hang clothes and back off and down the yard. He did this one day when we went out after it had rained, he ran down the yard, Joe watching and us of course, and ran onto the clothes line wooden step thing, one step on it, he slid from the wetness of the wood, slid across it, into the house and fell between the wooden stoop and the house. Thought Joe was going to fall out of his chair laughing so hard at this little guy being so funny with a look of, " what the heck happened there?" after he slid. Joe adored Rocky and snuck him in the house all the time. Rocky would come in and jump on Joe's bed and sit there so Joe was at his level and could hug him and there they would sit, until dad said "what's he doing in the house", and back out he went. Rocky suffered from severe arthritis. He had gotten to be a good age but got to the point his back end he couldn't lift. He was taken and put down that day. Joe was so lost without him. That's where Bear came in. My dad couldn't say much being scared to death of sweet Bear , (haha) and knowing Bear's attitude was, "Here to see Joe got a problem with it?" Bear never replaced Rocky but seemed to know that Joe needed a loyal dog to take over the attention for Rocky. Love you Rocky and now you're with your Joejoe. Remember let him catch his breath between kisses!
