Lorrain Rowley Nilsen, 54, passed away on May 25, 2015 at her home in American Fork, Utah, surrounded by her family, after a difficult battle with metastatic breast cancer.

She was born April 12, 1961 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Ralph Alcorn Rowley and Aleene Sumsion Rowley, the third of five children. The daughter of an Air Force officer, her family enjoyed frequent transfers. Her childhood included time in El Paso, Texas; Glasgow, Montana; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Washington, D.C.; and Ramstein, Germany.

She attended Brigham Young University, earning a B.S. degree in Mathematics. At BYU she met her husband, Kelvin Don Nilsen, and they were married in the Mesa, Arizona temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 5, 1982. Together, they raised four wonderful children. Lorrain's most important focus has always been on her family, and she has given selflessly to each of us. She is deeply loved and we sorely miss her. We look forward to the day we can be reunited.

Lorrain is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served diligently in many callings, including Activities Committee Chairman, Young Womens President, Young Women Camp Leader, Cub Scout Den Leader, Relief Society Visiting Teaching Coordinator, and Primary Nursery Leader.

Professionally, Lorrain taught college courses in computer science, authored multiple software user manuals, organized and authored content for multiple web sites, edited a book on emotional health, and managed offices for multiple small businesses.

Lorrain's hobbies included playing cello and piano, studying French and German, walking and bicycling with friends, studying emotional health, sewing, and making crafts.

Lorrain is survived by her husband, Kelvin; her four children, Taryn Nilsen, Britton (Alexia) Nilsen, Kami (Andrew) Harrison, and Erich Nilsen; her brothers Kurtis (Paula) Rowley and Lynn (Mark) Andersen; her sisters Kris (Adrian) Carbine and Janiel (Bruce) Miller; and her father Ralph Alcorn (Elaine) Rowley. Her mother, Aleene Sumsion (Homer) LeBaron and step father Homer McKay (Aleene) LeBaron, preceded her in death.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
