EL PASO - Joseph R. "Joe" Copp, 92, of El Paso, formerly of Minonk and Rutland, died at 8:25 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Heritage Manor in El Paso.Private family graveside services will be held Tuesday at Rutland Cemetery in Rutland. Full military rites will be accorded by the Rutland American Legion. The family requests no flowers. Memorials can be made to First Financial Bank, 223 N. Mill, Pontiac, IL 61764, to be distributed to Peace Meals, The Veterans Administration and Rutland American Legion.Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home in Flanagan is in charge of arrangements.Joe was born March 13, 1923, in Rutland, Ill. Surviving are his sons, Craig (Joan) Copp and Pat Copp (Sue Parks), both of Minonk; daughters, Joan Copp, Kay (Erik Winterland) Marshall and Margaret Copp (Roger Rapp), all of Normal; granddaughters, Stacy, Mandy and Madalyn; grandson, Nic; and great-grandsons, Dustin and Vincent.He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving his country for four years on the USS Juneau. He was a charter member of the Rutland American Legion and a member of the VFW and 40-8 Club. Joe owned and operated "Copp's Tap" in Minonk for many years, and later managed the Fiesta Restaurant and Lounge in Pontiac, taking ownership of the lounge under the name of "JC Lounge" until his retirement.Wherever you went with Joe, he always knew someone and refereed to them as "ol buddy." He was very kind and good natured and would give anyone the "shirt off his back." The family would like to thank Jerry Austman for his friendship and being the best "landlord," and a special thank you to Glenda Black for her many years of special care giving.So long Dad, see you in heaven! Thank you for your patience, fun times, kindness, laughter and love.
