Louis David Tilley, 98 of Ethelsville, AL passed away Monday, September 07, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation was Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Redus Hall officiating. Interment will be in Forest Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Tilley was born October 16, 1916 to the late Rev. James Ernest and Jennie Lowe Tilley in Gordo, AL. He was a member and deacon of First Freewill Baptist Church, Ethelsville, AL. Mr. Tilley was also very active with The Yorkville Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Ethelsville, AL. He sang in the Tilley Quartet in the 40’s and 50’s and enjoyed helping others in the community when he was able. Mr. Tilley retired from United Technologies after 27 years of service. He loved his family and spending time with them. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by his wife Willie Lee “Snookum” Gee Tilley; brothers – Lanier Tilley, Rev. Herbert Tilley, Rev. Raymond Tilley, Harvell Tilley, Paul Tilley and Huron Tilley; sisters – Ruth Walters, Virginia Tilley and Argyl Tilley. Mr. Tilley is survived by his daughter – Melinda (Mark) McCrory, Amory, MS; sons – David (Betty) Tilley, Ethelsville, AL and Vernice (Mildred) Tilley, Ethelsville, AL; sister – Rachel (William) Owen; 8 grandchildren – Randy (Vickie) Tilley, Karen (Glenn) Lindsey, Scott (Rita) Tilley, Gene Tilley, Jerry (Nicole) Tilley, Amy (Lee) Pannell, Christopher (Laura) McCrory and Collin McCrory; 11 great-grandchildren – Sean Turnipseed, Shay (Kristi) Knight, Johnny (Denise) Egger, Dawn (Blake) Dillard, Tyler (Maginn) Donoho, Kristyn (Ryan) Junkin, Kaley Irvin, Macy (Dylan) Stafford, Hannah Tilley, Ethan Pannell, and Eli Pannell; 12 great-great grandchildren – Conner Donoho, Maddox Junkin, Layna Dillard, Marley Dillard, Milly Stafford, Memory Egger, Jory Egger, Katherine Egger, Braxton Knight, Jace Knight, Trevor Cole and McKenzie Cole. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Ann Patterson, Mr. Tilley’s caregiver.
