SPRUNT, David Worth, 79, of Buena Vista, died Monday, March 16, 1998, at the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born June 26, 1918 in Wilmington, N.C., he was the son of the late Walter Payne and Julia Worth Sprunt. He retired in 1988 from Washington & Lee University, where he had been Chaplain and Chairman of the Department of Religion for many years. He was a veteran of World War II and was an ordained Presbyterian minister. He is survived by his wife, Elise Miller Sprunt of Rockbridge County; two daughters, Elise Givhan Sheffield, Rockbridge County, and Isabelle Haines Tate, Waterville, Maine; a son, Lt. David W. Sprunt Jr., U.S. Coast Guard, of Arlington; two granddaughters; a sister, Julie Worth Sprunt of Memphis, Tenn. There will be a private family service and burial with a memorial service to be announced later. Arrangements by Lomax Funeral Home. Roanoke Times, The (VA) - March 18, 1998.

His daughter Isabelle Haines Sprunt Tate's 1 Feb 2012 obit in the News-Gazette says she "was born Dec. 29, 1965, in Lexington, a daughter of Elise Givhan Sprunt of Rockbridge County and the late Dr. David Worth Sprunt, a professor of religion at Washington and Lee University for many years." Also she was survived by a sister, Elise and brother David, Jr.
