Name Variance: Whorton-Wharton

Known as "Bartley" or "Baron". Served as a sergeant in the Third Regiment of South Carolina Continental Troops under Captain George Liddell during 1779 and was a private after the fall of Charleston, South Carolina (Reference: South Carolina Roster, Pg # 981). Also listed with a John & Samuel Wharton.

Stub entries to Indents issued in payment of claims against South Carolina growing out of the Revolution Books U-W N416 issued the 7 July 1785 to Bartlett Whorton, for 12 pounds, 8 shillings and 6 pence for Military Duty per account audited. Interest 7 shillings 4 pence.

1790 South Carolina census shows family as 1 male of 16 and up, 2 males under 16, and 1 female born before 1790. (Joshua & William Caleb)

1800 South Carolina census show family as 1 male under 10, 2 males 10-15, Bartlett 26-44, 4 daughters under 10, wife 26-44. (Joshua & William Caleb no longer at home)

Bartlett purchased 99 acres of land for the price of $130.00 from one John Townson. Attested by: John Wharton. Occured in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This land was sold by John Wharton to Vardry Camp for $200.00 on December 11, 1817, after the death of Bartlett. Witnessed by: Thomas Wharton.
