Russell Sanders, age 70 of Milan, Illinois, and formerly of Appanoose County, died on Monday, May 25, 2015, at his home in Milan. He was born the son of John Gorham and Clara Salome (Stewart) Sanders on June 17, 1944, in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from the Centerville High School in 1963.

In 1965, Russell was united in marriage to Ruth Murdy in Centerville. The couple would later move to the Milan, Illinois area where Russell worked for Eagle Food Warehouse in Milan.

He was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Robert and John Sanders.

Russell is survived by his wife, Ruth Sanders of Milan, Illinois; son, John Sanders and his wife, Trista of Coal Valley, Illinois; a daughter, Carrie Roelf and her husband, Chad of Milan, Illinois; brother, James Sanders of Centerville, Iowa; sisters, Martha Sanders of Centerville, Iowa and Patty Petrides of Waterloo, Iowa; as well as five grandchildren.

A private burial services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A memorial fund has been established in his name and will be designated at a later date and can be mailed to the Sanders Family at P.O. Box 603-Molione, Illinois 61266. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa is caring for Russell and his family at this time.
