Son of William Henry Payne and Mary Catherine Loper, husband of Augusta V. Hallock.

In 1870, John K. Payne, aged 4, was living in Sag Harbor, NY, in the home of his parents, William H. Payne, aged 54, and Mary C. Payne, aged 40, with siblings, William H. Payne, aged 21, Emma R. Payne, aged 10, Frank W. Payne, aged 7, and Jesse F. Payne, aged 9 months. His father was shown to be a fisherman.

Obituary - John George Payne, 79, died last Tuesday at his home on Morris avenue, North Patchogue. Born in Bridgehampton, he had formerly lived in Blue Point. His wife, deceased, was Mrs. Augusta Hallock Payne. Mr. Payne leaves only a sister-in-law, Mrs. Benjamin Hallock, of Center Moriches. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the R.M. Sharp Funeral chapel, Patchogue, the Rev. William J. Weeks, pastor of the Blue Point Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Center Moriches.
