Obituary - DeForest W. Albin, aged 56, of Main Street, Bellport, who conducted a hardware store in Bellport for the last 33 years, died suddenly Monday in Mather Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson, after a week's illness. He was born in Brookhaven, a son of the late Chauncey and Alice King Albin, and was a lifelong resident of the Brookhaven-Bellport area. When a boy, he went on the water with his father and was nicknamed "Skipper," a name by which he was affectionately called for years. He learned the carpenter's trade from the late George Carman, and in 1911, bought Mr. Carman's hardware store on Bellport Lane. Mr. Albin was a director of the Bellport National Bank, a member of the Bellport Fire Department and a member of Court Belvidere, Foresters of America. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Greta Wright Albin of Bellport, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Smart, of Brooklyn. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. today at the Albin home, the Rev. D.J. Halloran, pastor of the R.C. Church of Mary Immaculate of Bellport, officiating. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Bellport.
Estate - When, the late Deforest W. Albin, of Bellport, died on August 14th, 1944, he left an estate that is appraised in the Surrogate's Court at $30,383.82 gross and $26,723.15 net, Mr. Albin, the papers state, was a hardware merchant, and included in the assets are listed a large number of accounts receivable, mostly small items. He also had $12,500 in life insurance, it is noted, with the policy payable to his widow, Greta W. Albin, who is given $10,000 and half of the estate, and the remaining half is set off to Minnie Smart, a sister.
