He was born December 8, 1908, in West Point, Utah, to Arthur John Burningham and Sarah Ann Thurgood; married Mildred Hammon August 27, 1927; divorced, 1962.

Survived by two sons and two daughters, Melvin Darrel Burningham (Joan), West Point; Lynn H. Burningham, Layton; Rustee Stanton/Altman, Salt Lake City; and Sherol Erb (Eugene), New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

One grandchild preceded him in death.

He spent most of his life in the food-canning industry, loved by his employees. A kind, gentle man, who loved his family and others, he was happy hunting, fishing or boating. In baseball, he was well known as a lefty with a smoking fastball. So long for now, Dad, we can see you in your field of dreams with Lou Gehrig, your idol.
