Larry Benson passed away at the Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Monday, May 18, 2015, at age 75 from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.

Larry was born to Linda and Leslie Benson, of Reinbeck, on August 19, 1939. He graduated from Dinsdale Consolidated School in 1958. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, married Gail Heaton, and settled in Evergreen, Colorado where they started a family and owned and operated a firewood company. He eventually moved back to Iowa to the Conrad-Beaman area where he started Benson Backhoe.

Larry was a proud father to Deanna and Karrie Benson; grandfather to Meghan, Jake, Tessa and Kristie; and great-grand father to Lyla Lee. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life; nothing put the twinkle in Larry's eyes more than talking about Deanna, his Grandchildren, and Lyla.

Larry was known for his sense of humor and quick wit; he had a joke for every occasion and could tell them non-stop. He loved children and they loved him. He made fun wherever he went. A perfect day for Larry was a visit from friends, fishing, family gatherings or playing cards and laughing with his dear and devoted companion, Betty.

Larry loved traveling and exploring new places on road trips around Iowa and the Midwest with Betty. Larry never met a stranger and he collected friends wherever he went.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother and father, Linda and Leslie Benson; an infant son Kenneth, and daughter, Karrie.

He leaves behind his daughter Deanna McDougal, (Mark) and grandchildren Meghan, Jake, Tessa, and Kristie, and one great-granddaughter, Lyla, all of Green Mountain Falls and Colorado Springs, Colorado; the love of his life, Betty Humphreys, of Albion; two brothers: Jerry, (Jolene), of Garwin, and Randy (Rita), of Reinbeck; three sisters: Marie Brown, of Hudson, Judy Benson-Rice (John), of Lee's Summit, MO, and Darlene Beller (Tom), of Overland Park, KS; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A Family Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29th from 7-9:00 pm at the Minerva Wesley Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel on Saturday, May 30th at 1:00 with a private interment of his ashes at the Reinbeck Cemetery later.veteran
