Dorothy Elsie Faehnrich was born December 23, 1916 in the Kensington, Minnesota area. Dorothy and her five brothers were the children of Oscar and Esther (Sundberg) Lindquist. She was baptized into the Christian faith by Pastor Hederstrom.
As a young child she moved with her family to a farm south of Garfield. She attended School District 88 in LaGrande Township for eight years and was confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Garfield by Rev. O. O. Gustafson.
Following graduation from Alexandria High School in 1935, Dorothy was employed by the City of Alexandria for four years. She also worked at Lewis Drug Store and Vernon Studios.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Louis (Mix) Faehnrich on September 24, 1939 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Garfield. They became the adoptive parents of two children, Gary and Susan.
In addition to caring for her family, Dorothy worked with Mix at the Real Estate Office and as a clerk at Bursch Travel Agency. After retirement in 1975 Dorothy and Mix spent 15 winters in Mesa, Arizona and their summers in Alexandria.
Dorothy was an active member of First Lutheran Church and belonged to the Eastern Star and Sewing Club. Square dancing was a pastime the couple enjoyed for many years.
Dorothy died March 23, 1999 at Bethany Home in Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Gary as a result of an automobile accident in 1974; four brothers: Harold, Donald, Ray and an infant brother; a brother Vern Lindquist, a sister-in-law Ruth Lindquist and a nephew Dick Lindquist.
Surviving Dorothy are her husband Louis ((Mix) Faehnrich of Alexandria; daughter, Susan Jean and husband Bill Hoffman of Villard; three grandchildren: Wendy, Jill and Kelly and a great grandson, Ignacio.
Funeral services were held at First Lutheran Church on March 27, 1999 with Rev. Keith Lentz and Rev. Cyril Fayose officiating. Interment followed in Kinkead Cemetery with Gary Erickson, Rick Faehnrich, Bill Lindquist, Brad Nere, Tom Lindquist and Guy Lommen serving as pallbearers.
