George B. Fox
George Beatty Fox, 80, of Camp Hill, and formerly of Wellsville, died Saturday in West Shore Health & Rehabilitation, East Pennsboro Twp.
He was a retired history teacher in the West Shore School District; a graduate of Lafayette College and received his Masters in History from Wesleyan University, Connecticut. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran. He began his teaching career with the Navaho program of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Nevada, returned to New Cumberland where he raised sheep and taught at New Cumberland and Red Land High Schools. After retiring from teaching, he wrote and published several books of lyrics and poems. He will be remembered not only for his writing, but for his dedication to teaching American History and his appreciation for all of nature.
He was a member of Central PA Friends of Jazz.
He was born February 26, 1923 in Harrisburg, to the late Judge John E. and Rachel (Kunkel) Fox, Sr.; and was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane (Brugnoni) Fox; a brother, Charles Kunkel Fox; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Fox.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Green) Richey Fox; 2 sisters, Virginia Uihlein of Naples, FL and Eliza Gerhardt and her husband, David of Baltimore, MD; a brother, John E. Fox, Jr., of Camp Hill; 4 step- daughters, Anne McHugh of Camp Hill, Elizabeth Sidoli of Delhi, NY, Margaret Hauge of Dallas, TX and Sarah Gunther of Gig Harbor, WA; and a beloved uncle to three nieces, Eliza W. Granlund of New Bern, NC, Diane V. Uihlein of Naples, FL, and Suzanne F. Ricker of Carlisle; and three nephews, John Gerhardt of Traverse City, MI, Frederick W. Uihlein of Stem Boat Springs, CO, and Charles K. Fox of Wallingford; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2003 in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 2205, Harrisburg, PA 17105.
