Information from the Adjutant General's Report for the State of Illinois shows that the 155th Infantry was not organized until Feb 1865, making it impossible for him to be with that unit if he died Aug 1863. His DoD in the AG Report and Office of the Illinois Secretary of State shows his death to be 30 Mar 1865.

Charles was born in Oglethorp Co. Georgia. He was 25 and living in McLeansboro, Illinos at the time he signed up for duty, in Feb 1865.
He was 5'11'' tall with dark hair, gray eyes and a dark complexion. Worked as a farmer until his enlistment. Died from disease in Indianapolis, Ind. 30 Mar 1865.
