An Obergefreiter and Bordfunker [wireless operator] with 6 Staffel Zerstörergeschwader 2, he died when his aircraft (Bf110D; wn:3629; A2+KL) was shot down, possibly by Flight Sergeant Jack Steere of 72 Squadron RAF, and crashed at Venson Farm, Eastry, Sandwich Kent. The Flugzeugführer [pilot] Feldwebel Lorenz Beil was also killed.

Originally buried in Grave 3, Plot P.A. in Aylesham Cemetery, Kent.
