Professional Football Player. For fourteen seasons (1967 to 1968 and 1970 to 1981), he was a place-kicker in the National Football League with the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Without ever playing football, he relocated to the United States and earned the spot as kicker for the Lions at a tryout camp in 1967. He enlisted with the United States Army and served for two-years during the Vietnam War. He returned to resume his professional football career and signed with the Dolphins in 1970. Yepremian went on to become a part of the historic Dolphins' teams that clinched two consecutive Super Bowls (1973 and 1974) including Miami's perfect 17-0 season (1972-1973). During Super Bowl VII in 1973 against the Washington Redskins, a field-goal attempt by Yepremian was blocked by the Redskins. An effort to advance the ball by Yepremian resulted in a fumble and a return touchdown by Washington's Mike Bass. However, Miami would prevail and capture the championship. He distinguished himself by earning Pro-Bowl honors twice (1973 and 1978). He was named MVP of the 1973 Pro Bowl contest. Additionally, he achieved First-Team All-Pro status twice (1971 and 1973). He compiled 1,074 points in 177 career regular season NFL games. After his retirement from football, he became heavily involved with charitable causes and created his own foundation. He died of complications from brain cancer.
