**Note—I found one source that says Robert was born in Bridgeport, Ohio, which lays in four counties. I have not yet found which one allegedly was his birth county. They are: Hardin County, Union County, Belmont County and Montgomery County. Since his family was in Belmont County in 1850 I have chosen that one until I find differently.

Robert McConaughey, sick of cancer, is no better. His daughter, Mrs. John Lechliter and his son Pierce and wife of Macon county came to see him Sunday. The unfortunate man lives on buttermilk altogether.

Robert McConaughey died of cancer Sunday. He suffered many months. He was one of the early settlers of this locality. Funeral and burial took place at the Presbyterian church at 10 a.m. Monday.
