Daughter of Melchoir and Christina Hoffman Nauman(n); married Ephraim P Taylor on July 7, 1863 at Marion, IA.

The Marion Register January 17, 1894

OBITUARY.

Ernestine Nauman was born in Saxe-Altenburg, Germany, April 8th, 1842, and came to America in 1849.

Her father and elder sister died on the way, and the mother, eldest brother and infant sister shortly after their arrival in Marion. The subject of this sketch, with her surviving sister, Mary, and her brothers Edward, John, Bernard and Augustus, were placed among the people of Marion and vicinity and there grew to maturity. Edward became a soldier in the Union army and served his full term, but lost his life in an ambuscade in Arkansas, just previous to receiving his discharge.

The three surviving brothers after many vicissitudes are now living near Frankfort, Marshall Co., Kansas, and one, Bernard, is with us a mourner today.

Mary Chattin, not present, lives near Anthon, Iowa.

Ernestine was married to E.P. Taylor July 8th, 1863, who also survives.

Not blest with rugged health during any portion of her married life, she has been an invalid for the past 18 years, and much of this time was a great and patient sufferer. Often near to death her sufferings were prolonged until Jan. 10th, when she was released, departing this life in Orlando, Florida, whither she had been taken by her husband about a month previous at her urgent request, in hope of receiving some benefit by change of climate.

The immediate cause of her death was consumption. Though in a community of strangers she found kind friends who did what they could to alleviate her suffering, and gave willing testimony to her patience and hope.

When she was about 18 she became a member of the Christian church under the ministration of N.A. McConnel, in Marion, and was faithful in her Christian life to her death.
