Cornelius (Case) Andrew Vander Hart was the last of 13 children born to Gerrit and Bertha (Groot-Nibbelink) Vander Hart in Mahaska County's Lower Grove neighborhood near Peoria, Iowa on April 1, 1927. He received his education at Lower Grove and Cherry Grove Country Schools, completing the 8th grade. He worked with his father on the farm, learned to make sorghum, and eventually began driving truck for Vander Hart Transfer. On January 6, 1946, Case made public profession of his faith and was baptized at Peoria Christian Reformed Church in Peoria. He entered the Army Air Corp on January 14, 1946. Following basic training in Texas, he spent the majority of his time in the service as part of the crew building the airbase on Adak in the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged on March 18, 1947.

Shortly after returning home, he began dating Rachel Mae Vander Molen, and on June 7, 1949, they were married at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. After a honeymoon in the Wisconsin Dells, they settled into their new home and started raising a family which soon included six children: Archie Lee,Allan Ray, Pamala Sue, identical twins Arlys Joy and Marlys Jean, and Kenneth Wayne.

Case began working at Vermeer Manufacturing at Pella, Iowa in 1951 where his leadership and organizational abilities were soon recognized. He was quickly promoted to shop foreman and then to plant superintendent. In 1968 he began traveling for the company serving as director of irrigation sales. In 1975 Case left Vermeer to pursue a new challenge as director of irrigation sales with Northern Pump and Irrigation in Henderson, Nebraska.
After seven years, he began to split his time between his work at Northern and a new venture, Hy-Way Trailer. In March, 1994 he sold his interest in that business, allowing him and Rachel to move back to Pella to be closer to family. A defining moment in his life occurred, when shortly after retiring, he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. From that time on, he not only lived his faith, but shared it freely with many others. Once Case regained his health, he and Rachel enjoyed traveling throughout the country, and bi-annual vacations with their children and their families. Case also enjoyed playing golf and sharing coffee with friends, as well as driving part-time for Geetings, Inc.

Case and Rachel were charter members of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella where Case served as an Elder. He was on the board of Pella Christian High School, and in later years he served as chaplain of the local VFW Post.

Family and friends remember Case's genuine interest in others and his phenomenal memory of people and places. Any stranger he met, was not a stranger for long. Even when Parkinson's Disease made communication challenging, he found ways to express his love for his Lord and for the people around him.

After several years of declining health, in 2012 both he and Rachel moved into the Long Term Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center. They moved once again in January, 2014, to The Cottages where he passed away on May 6, 2015, at the age of 88 years, one month and five days.

Case and Rachel were blessed with nearly 66 years together and treasured many wonderful times with their family of six children, 16 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

Case was preceded in death by his son Archie on February 15, 2015, a grandson, Doug Vander Hart on July 18, 2009, an infant granddaughter Nanette Vander Hart in February, 1981; and his parents, Gerrit and Bertha Vander Hart, his twelve siblings: Janetta and Alva Campbell, Stoffel Vander Hart
