"Received his education at a private school in Waterbury, Conn., the Gunnery School in Washington, Conn., and General Russell's School in New Haven, Conn. Removing in 1863 with his parents to Torrington, Conn., he commenced his business career there three years later, entering the employ of the Coe Brass Manufacturing Co. of which his father was founder and president. After a training in the workshops in the practical side of the business, he entered the offices of the company as book-keeper, and a few years later became treasurer of the corporation in which office he continued over thirty-five years until 1907, when he retired from business and removed to New Haven, Conn., where he d. Oct. 5, 1909. Upon the consolidation of various brass manufacturing concerns into the American Brass Company, Mr. Coe became a director in this corporation; and he was also a director of the Torrington Water Co. and a trustee of the Torrington Savings Bank. For many years he was a vestryman of the Episcopal church in Torrington, and he was also prominent in Masonic circles, being a member of Seneca Lodge of Torrington and of the Royal Arch Chapter. He took an interest in the history of the Coe family and was a member of the executive committee of the Coe Association. In 1886 Mr. Coe represented Torrington in the Conn. Assembly, and in 1905 was elected state senator from the thirtieth district."
