Harold "Gene" Huff, age 89 of Moravia, Iowa, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at his home in Moravia. He was born the son of Harold and Dollie(Beaty)Huff on November 13, 1925 near Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from the Moravia Community High School.

Gene enlisted in United States Army on February 14, 1944 and served his country during WWII his duty was infantry then to 398th Bombardment Squadron working on missions with B29 Bombers until his honorable discharge on March 24, 1946, On September 12, 1944, Gene was united in marriage to Doris "Gayle" Sandeen in Hattiesburg, Mississippi while he was in the service. They farmed together for many years, north of Plano then west of Moravia and north of Mystic, Iowa on the farm where he was raised. His farming career had many challenges and rewards but satisfaction always came through his hard work & dedication. The pride he had in his farm equipment & his cattle was quite evident. He enjoyed laughing & joking with family & friends, going to the Farm Progress Show, seeing music shows at Lakeside and eating out on occasion, hunting, cattle sales etc. Gene was well known for his honestly & friendly personality. He attended the Brushy Christian Church north of Plano, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Gayle Huff on November 9, 2007; grandson, Chris Sandmeier; sister, Norma Espy; brother, Clifford "Clair" Huff; and a brother-in-law, Jack Espy.

Gene is survived by: his sons, John Huff and his wife, Aleatha of Harvey, Iowa, Tary Huff and his wife, Pam of Moravia, Iowa and Steve Huff and his wife, Kathie of Cape Coral, Florida; a brother, Ron Huff and his wife, Pat of Iowa city, Iowa; Eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gaynele Sandeen of Ottumwa, Iowa, Joyce Sandeen of Blakesburg, Iowa. Eva May Wallace of Ankeny, Iowa and Laura Huff of Iowa City, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Terry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa with full military honors. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 2-8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials can be made to HCI Care Services or Moravia First Responders and left or mailed to the funeral home. The Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa in caring for Gene and his family.
