Mrs. Koontz was born in Elloree, SC, October 15, 1917, to the late Edward Francis Irick, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Holloway Irick. She went to be with the angels in heaven October 11, 2007, after suffering from a long illness. Mrs. Koontz met her husband of 64 years, Earl M. Koontz, while working in Columbia. They lived over 50 years in Wheeling, West Virginia, before returning to her beloved state of South Carolina in 1990 to reside in Columbia. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother, loved playing bridge, was active in church work and life with her family. She was a member of the American Revolution and the Wheeling Woman's Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Edward Samuel Koontz (Virginia A.) of Lexington; three grandchildren, Deborah Ann Koontz of Atlanta, David Michael Koontz (Dana R.) of Augusta, their children Courtnie, Jack and Sydney and Robert Jeffrey Koontz (Wendy) of Charlotte; sisters, Mary Faith "Mickey" Irick Addy and Esther O'Neal Irick Sample, both of Saluda, SC; sister-in-law, Mitylene Irick of Seneca; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward F. Irick, Jr. Elizabeth loved her family and was equally loved and honored by all who knew her.
