Elmer C. Tollefson was born in Nora Township on January 18, 1901, the son of Tom and Clara Tollefson. He was baptized and confirmed in Nora Church. He attended country school and Morris Agricultural School. On May 5, 1923, he was united in marriage to Hazel Swenson in Hoffman, Minnesota. The couple lived on the family farm in Nora Township, then in Kensington and Morris before moving to Alexandria in 1941. elmer had been a resident of the Knute Nelson memorial Home since October of 1986. He was a member of First Lutheran church in Alexandria. elmer worked for Wedum Hardware and the Local Gas Company until he retired. Elmer helped build First Lutheran Church during the years when all able bodied men would do carpenter work to complete the church after work hours. The women of the church would make supper so they could work until dark and weekends. He was a past member of Alexandria Golf Club and the Elks Club. Elmer loved people of all ages, hunting, fishing were his favorite pastimes. Elmer was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Elmer died January 31, 1989 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home at the age of 88. He was loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Elmer is survived by daughter: Audrey (Mrs. Kenneth Tessmer) of Alexandria; grandchildren: Steven Tessmer of Mound, Julie Card of East Wenatchee, Washington and Amy Sunderland of Minneapolis; great grandchildren: Nicole and Zachary Tessmer of Mound and Lewis Car III and Andrew Card of East Wenatchee; and sister Tillie Borgen of Tacoma, Washington. Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, parents, four brothers and six sisters.
Pallbearers were Oswald Tollefson, Donald Bratlien, Roger Bratlien, Harlan Bratlien, Ray Tollefson, Dr. Wm. Heegaard, and Donald Krueger. Honorary pallbearers were Bennie Osterberg, Lenore Osterberg, Tony Osterberg, Ray Oksness, Leonard Bratlien, James Robertson and Harold Ahlbom.
Funeral services were February 4, 1989 at First Lutheran Church, Alexandria with Rev. Ronald Otterson and Rev. Cheryl Berg officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home
